La comuna de Camiña está ubicada en el sector más septentrional de la provincia de Iquique. El acceso al valle se realiza a través de la ruta A-5 a 147 kilómetros de Iquique, para posteriormente bifurcarse hacia el oriente por un camino mixto de 32 kilómetros. Tiene una extensión de 37 kilómetros y su principal recurso hídrico es el río Camiña o Tana, cuyo origen está en el Cerro Pumire y su trayecto se extiende hasta el Océano Pacífico.

Camiña tiene un total de 269 habitantes. De origen prehispano y con una importante población aborigen. Era el centro del repartimiento colonial que incluía el valle de Tana, Sotoca y hasta la frontera con Isluga.

La construcción de las viviendas es de adobe, mientras que su iglesia cercana a la plaza posee un portal construido en el siglo XVIII.
